LLANSANTFFRAID VILLAGE FC

LLANSANTFFRAID VILLAGE FOOTBALL CLUB

A Brief History……………..

There has been a football club in Llansantffraid since the end of the 19th century. A team called Llansantffraid White Stars were one of the first sides. The previous Llansantffraid Football Club started in 1959, they had great success in amateur football, before deciding to step up the ladder in the Welsh pyramid system in 1990. After a meteoric rise they ended up in the League of Wales in 1993. They had many successes including winning the Welsh Intermediate Cup in their Cymru Alliance days in 1993. They also won the League of Wales Cup in 1995 and in 1996 they became the only team from Mid-Wales to win the Welsh Cup in the 20th century, and probably one of the smallest Village Clubs to achieve the feat. Llansantffraid were taken over by Total Network Solutions in 1997, and in this new guise their success continued, they went on to win the League of Wales for the first time in 99/00. Total Network Solutions moved from the Village in 2007 to their new home in Oswestry. With a more rigid ground criteria being set by the FAW it became obvious that the ground at Llansantffraid could not accommodate them for much longer and unfortunately the decision had to be made to find a new home.

This is when the new club of Llansantffraid Village was born. A number of the old Llansantffraid Committee members along with some new enthusiastic volunteers decided to form a Village Football Club again, to give the local lads the chance to play for the village. The initial meeting was in January 2007. The Club quite rightly had to start at the bottom of the ladder, and played their first game in the Montgomeryshire Amateur League Division 2 in August 2007. We ended that first season as champions, losing just one league game along the way, we also won the Derek Mills Cup and the Consolation Cup as well.

In our second season, we decided to form two teams, such was the demand by local players to come and play for us. We had another record breaking season, this time we won the Montgomeryshire Amateur League Division 1 title without losing a game despite some very good competition from the other clubs in the league. The double was completed in the last game of the season when we won the League Cup.

We now find ourselves in the SPAR Mid-Wales League, another step up the ladder, and we know it’s a lot tougher this time round. Our aim for the next two or three seasons is to try and settle into this new league.
